Golden ticket – interpack 201412 May 2014
Far more than just a packaging show, interpack 2014 is due to take place in Düsseldorf in May. Packaging & Converting Intelligence previews the renowned trade fair, billed as a major inspiration for the packaging industry and all related processing technologies.
interpack, the world's leading tradefair for the packaging sector and related processing industries, will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, 8-14 May 2014. With around 2,700 exhibitors expected from 60 countries, the latest event will build on its 56-year history at the forefront of the industry.
This year, interpack faces huge exhibitor demand, and was fully booked before the official registration deadline in February. The companies in question work across food and beverages, confectionery and baked goods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, other consumer goods, industrial goods and related processing services. They will exhibit in 19 halls, comprising around 174,000m2 of space.
interpack has always provided a forum for leading-edge discussion, and this year's event will be no different. Companies will present their latest ideas to high-calibre visitors, including many potential new customers. They will explore not just equipment for packaging and processing, but also materials, services, quality assurance and packaging concepts for the future.
On top of this extensive exhibitor offering is a range of special events. New for 2014 is "components for processing and packaging", an additional exhibition for suppliers to the packaging industry taking place 8-10 May. With around 75 companies taking part, it focuses on drive, control and sensor technology, industrial image processing, handling technology, industrial software and complete automation systems, and will take place in the Stadthalle in Congress Centre South.
The SAVE FOOD Congress, running 7-8 May, promises to build on the foundation it established in 2011. Directed at non-profit organisations as well as industry, the event will explore global food loss and food waste, and will provide an international platform for discussions between interested parties.
Also promoting SAVE FOOD is Innovationparc Packaging (IPP), now a recurring feature at interpack. This special show will provide concrete approaches to tackling food loss through a look at food processing, machine construction and packaging design. It will be staged in a prestige marquee in the outdoor space between halls 2 and 3, and will be complemented by a programme of lectures on an integrated stage.
Finally, the Metal Packaging Plaza will be making a triumphant return after debuting at interpack 2011. A special exhibition for the metal packaging community and its supplier industry, the plaza will showcase around 40 exhibitors, and provide an information platform complete with a bar lounge and meeting points.
The 2011 event was widely considered one of the best to date, receiving top ratings from the vast majority of visitors surveyed. Of the 166,000 visitors who attended, 100,000 came from abroad and a high proportion were drawn from top management. It is fully expected that interpack 2014 will replicate the same success.
